I asked a Question to NRN @ Infy
Before I share that, with slightest of the possibility, in case you have not heard or known about NRN a.k.a. Narayan Murthy or the company named Infosys.
Mr. Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy . NRN is an Indian billionaire businessman. He is the founder of Infosys.
Infosys ( popular called as INFY) has 259,619 employees as on 2021 and offices globally !!
So now that you have some background, let me share my story.
While I was working as a Test Analyst at Infy ( 2013–2016)
It was another usual day, working at Infosys Mysore DC (Development center).
We received an an email from DC HR around 2nd half of the day, and I read the subject line as:
NRN’s Address | Today at 5:30pm.
I remember it was 2nd Dec 2013
Other than fact that Mysore now Mysuru w̵a̵s̵ is one one of the best campus for any Engineering grad to start their career but also birthplace of NRN as well.
As expected the venue was well maintained - Amphitheater @ MYS DC
We all gathered there and house was full 5:15 pm ! !
Right at the center NRN was the guy on everyone’s eye!
After introducing himself Snags (Nagarajan Srinivasan- MYS DC Head of that year) requested NRN to take the charge of the stage.
NRN was energized by watching youth @ MYS DC, especially trainees.
Grads joining across India, undergo 6 month intense training at Mysore DC campus.
I joined as lateral and hence did not undergo training at Infy.
Mostly heard about it from my junior team members.
I found this thread on Quora with personal explanations/experience; in case you are interested to know about the grad program.
And now NRN was on air...
As usual this short heighted, head strong and founder of one of the most successful start up in India, started his high quality speech for the hungry listeners...
He started formally and then started talking about more important things such as friends and family.
During his speech he shared and suggested many things such as:
“We are lucky ones to be here”.
This is one of the best maintained IT campus comparing Google’s and Microsoft’s of current time! (Year 2013)
To make good friends and good life out of Infosys!
He also shared his own struggles in family and past, such as …
I did not had a pair of sleepers till I went to college.
In my childhood I was having only 2 sets of 'shirt + nicker (shorts)’ only.
He shared bit about his family as well.
He said, my dad was a teacher in school
In 50’s when he went to his dad, and asked, what we should do in free time, his dad suggested to read books and listening to music.
On technology, competition and growth
Mr. Murthy explained; how market has changed from past times and how Infosys is adapting to client’s need in order to provide the quality Delivery!
"Discipline should be an integral part of life to succeed in life", stated NRN.
He said as per work hour policy it has to be 8.45 productive hours to call it a day at Infosys.
As one of his data point and result of a study said practically it’s less than 4.5 hours now, considering meetings, innovation and more…
He said that this effort has to be raised to the best!
Client needs 'More in Less Time' he stated.
He shared many good examples and experiences...
and suddenly he said, I won’t stop like this way, lets know what you have in mind!
And Q & A session started
He shared that he follows a rule that, Girl and Boy will ask questions in alternate fashion, with question starting from a Girl.
There were few fantastic questions and some stunning answers 🙂
after 5-6 alternate turns... It was finally my chance to speak to THE Legend.
Me: Hi Sir I welcome you home! I am Millan happy to be an Infocion.
NRN: Hello Millan, Proud to be Infoscion as well.
Me: In your speech, you said, we are putting ~ 4.5 hours productive effort, right!
What If, I can provide quality Ideas and make it much more fruitful in 4.5 hrs. than just staying in office for 8.5 hrs. to call it a day ❓
NRN: We will definitely implement your idea (s)...
Post your Idea on MyInfy Ideas portal, if it is accepted, it could be implemented at DC level.
We will give you rewards in form of promotions, increments and of course DC level recognition!
And of course, we will ask you to give those ideas for 8.45 hours (Statement with humor and style)
But if you work for less time this may give a negative message to the team.
Me: Thanks Sir! It’s been a pleasure talking to you!
Few more questions…
..and funny situations came.
Such as, all of a sudden two girls asked question at same time.
NRN: Never speak between 2 women! :)
This way a memorable evening ended with loud applaud & lots of camera click’s with.
